GENERAL POLICY: Due to the nature of laboratory testing and regulatory requirements, the MDM™ Gut & Brain Health test is generally non-refundable once purchased. However, refunds may be available in specific circumstances as outlined below.

Autism Diagnostics Lab is committed to providing high-quality laboratory testing and excellent customer service. This Refund and Return Policy explains when refunds are available, how to request a refund, and important limitations on returns and refunds.
Please read this policy carefully before purchasing the MDM™ test. By completing a purchase, you acknowledge that you have read and agree to this Refund and Return Policy.
General No-Refund Policy
As a general rule, purchases of the MDM™ Gut & Brain Health test are non-refundable.
This policy exists because:
- Regulatory Requirements: CLIA and state regulations require strict controls over laboratory test kits and samples
- Contamination Risk: Once a kit leaves our facility, we cannot guarantee it has not been tampered with or contaminated
- Personalized Service: Each kit is prepared and tracked specifically for an individual patient
- Limited Shelf Life: Test kits have expiration dates and cannot be resold after extended periods
- Healthcare Nature: Like most healthcare services and medical tests, purchases are generally final once services are initiated
However, we recognize that certain circumstances warrant exceptions to this general policy, as outlined below.
Exceptions to No-Refund Policy
Refunds or replacements may be provided in the following circumstances:
1. Sample Loss by Laboratory
If your sample is received by our laboratory but is subsequently lost or misplaced by us before analysis can be completed:
- Full Refund or Replacement: You will be offered the choice of a full refund or a free replacement test kit
- Notification: We will notify you immediately if a sample is lost
- No Additional Cost: If you choose a replacement kit, there will be no additional charge
- Processing Time: Refunds for laboratory loss will be processed within 10 business days
Please note: Sample loss during shipping (before arrival at the laboratory) is covered under our damaged delivery policy below.
2. Damaged Kit Upon Delivery
If you receive a test kit that is damaged, defective, or incomplete upon delivery:
- Notification Requirement: You must notify us within 7 days of receiving the kit
- Documentation: Please provide photos of the damaged kit and packaging
- Inspection: We may ask you to return the damaged kit for inspection
- Replacement or Refund: We will send a replacement kit at no charge or issue a full refund
Examples of damage warranting replacement or refund:
- Broken or cracked collection containers
- Torn or compromised packaging that could affect sample integrity
- Missing components (collection containers, instructions, return shipping materials)
- Expired collection materials
- Evidence of tampering or contamination
3. Company Ordering Error
If an error on our part results in you receiving the wrong product or duplicate shipments:
- Full Refund or Correction: We will issue a full refund or send the correct product at no additional charge
- Return Not Required: You are not required to return incorrectly sent items
- Expedited Processing: Refunds for company errors will be processed within 5 business days
Examples of company ordering errors:
- We charged you twice for a single order
- We sent you a kit when you only requested information
- We sent multiple kits when you ordered only one
- Billing errors resulting in incorrect charges
Unused, Sealed Kit Policy
If you have an unused test kit that has not been opened and remains sealed in its original packaging, you may be eligible for a partial refund:
Eligibility Requirements:
- The kit must be completely unused and sealed in original packaging
- The kit must be within 30 days of purchase
- The kit must not be expired (expiration date must be at least 60 days in the future)
- You must request a return authorization before returning the kit
- The kit must be returned in resalable condition
Refund Amount:
- Refund amount: 70% of purchase price ($244.30 for a $349 kit)
- The 30% restocking fee ($104.70) covers processing, re-inspection, and recertification costs
- Original shipping costs are non-refundable
Return Process:
- Contact us within 30 days of purchase to request return authorization
- Receive return authorization number and return shipping instructions
- Ship the unused, sealed kit back to us using a trackable shipping method
- Upon receipt and inspection, refund will be processed within 10 business days
Important: You are responsible for return shipping costs. We recommend using insured, trackable shipping. We are not responsible for kits lost or damaged during return shipping.
Non-Returnable and Non-Refundable Items
The following are NOT eligible for refund or return under any circumstances except those listed above (laboratory loss, damaged delivery, or company error):
- Used Test Kits: Any kit that has been opened or used, even partially
- Collected Samples: Once you have collected a sample, the test is non-refundable
- Samples in Transit: Once a sample has been shipped to the laboratory, the test is non-refundable
- Completed Tests: Once laboratory analysis has been performed, even if you choose not to view results
- Change of Mind: Refunds are not available simply because you changed your mind after opening or using the kit
- Expired Kits: Kits that have expired due to failure to use them in a timely manner
- Improper Sample Collection: Samples that cannot be analyzed due to improper collection by the user
- Delayed Sample Return: Samples that cannot be analyzed due to extended delays in returning the sample to the laboratory
- Physician Authorization Issues: Inability to obtain required physician authorization in states requiring it (see State Requirements)
- Dissatisfaction with Results: Disagreement with or disappointment in test results
Refund Request Procedure
To request a refund for any of the eligible circumstances described above, follow this procedure:
- Contact Us Promptly:
- Provide Required Information:
- Your order number
- Date of purchase
- Reason for refund request
- Supporting documentation (photos of damage, tracking numbers, etc.)
- Your contact information
- Preferred refund method (original payment method or other)
- Wait for Review:
- We will review your request within 3 business days
- We may contact you for additional information or clarification
- We will notify you of our decision by email
- Return Items if Required:
- If return is required, we will provide a return authorization number
- Ship items as instructed using trackable shipping
- Include return authorization number with shipment
- Receive Refund:
- Once approved, refunds will be processed within the timeframe specified for each refund category
- Refunds will be issued to the original payment method unless otherwise arranged
- You will receive confirmation when the refund has been processed
Processing Timeframes
Once a refund is approved, processing times vary based on the reason for the refund:
Refund Processing Times:
- Company Error: 5 business days
- Sample Loss by Laboratory: 10 business days
- Damaged Kit Upon Delivery: 10 business days after receiving documentation or returned items
- Unused, Sealed Kit Return: 10 business days after receiving and inspecting returned kit
Please note: Additional time may be required for your financial institution to post the refund to your account (typically 3 to 5 business days).
Refund Method
Refunds will be issued using the same payment method you used for the original purchase:
- Credit or Debit Card: Refund will be credited to the original card
- PayPal or Other Payment Services: Refund will be sent to the same account
- Check or Money Order: If you paid by check, refund will be mailed as a check to the billing address
In limited circumstances, alternative refund methods may be arranged (for example, if the original payment method is no longer valid). Contact us to discuss alternative arrangements.
Return Shipping Costs
Responsibility for return shipping costs depends on the reason for return:
- Damaged Kit or Company Error: We will provide a prepaid return shipping label at no cost to you
- Unused, Sealed Kit (Change of Mind): You are responsible for return shipping costs
- Sample Loss by Laboratory: No return shipping required (sample is already at the laboratory)
For returns at your expense, we recommend using insured, trackable shipping. We are not responsible for items lost or damaged during return transit if you arrange shipping.
Replacement Kits
In some situations, you may prefer a replacement kit rather than a refund:
Free Replacements Provided For:
- Damaged kits upon delivery
- Laboratory loss of samples
- Company errors resulting in wrong or defective product
- Sample contamination or degradation during laboratory processing (not due to improper collection or shipping by customer)
Replacement Process:
- Contact us to request a replacement instead of a refund
- We will ship a replacement kit at no charge with expedited shipping
- You do not need to return the damaged or defective kit unless we specifically request it for quality control purposes
Partial Services
The $349 test price includes:
- Test kit and collection materials
- Free U.S. shipping (outbound and return)
- Laboratory analysis
- Results report and interpretation
- Access to customer support
No Partial Refunds: We do not offer partial refunds for individual components. For example:
- If you receive the kit but decide not to use it, only the unused sealed kit policy applies
- If we perform analysis but you choose not to view results, no refund is available
- If you only used some components of the kit, no partial refund is available
HSA and FSA Reimbursement Information
The MDM™ Gut & Brain Health test may be eligible for reimbursement through your Health Savings Account (HSA) or Flexible Spending Account (FSA).
Using HSA or FSA Funds:
- You may pay for the test using your HSA or FSA debit card at checkout
- Alternatively, pay with a regular payment method and seek reimbursement from your HSA or FSA administrator
- We provide detailed itemized receipts suitable for HSA or FSA reimbursement
Eligibility:
- Most HSA and FSA plans cover diagnostic laboratory testing when ordered by or in consultation with a healthcare provider
- Eligibility varies by plan; check with your HSA or FSA administrator
- Some plans may require a Letter of Medical Necessity from your healthcare provider
Documentation for Reimbursement:
We provide the following documentation to support HSA and FSA reimbursement claims:
- Itemized receipt showing date of service, description of test, and amount paid
- Invoice with our laboratory's name, address, and tax ID number
- Test results report (if required by your administrator)
Refunds and HSA or FSA:
- If you paid with HSA or FSA funds and receive a refund, the refund will be returned to the same account
- You may need to notify your administrator of the refund to ensure proper accounting
- Consult with your administrator or tax professional regarding the tax implications of refunds
Disputes and Chargebacks
If you have a concern about your purchase, we encourage you to contact us directly before initiating a chargeback or payment dispute with your credit card company or bank.

- Most issues can be resolved quickly and amicably through direct communication
- Chargebacks result in additional fees and administrative burdens
- Chargebacks may delay resolution and refund processing
- We are committed to fair and prompt resolution of legitimate concerns
If You Initiate a Chargeback:
- We will respond to the chargeback with documentation of the transaction and our refund policy
- If we have already provided services (sent a kit, performed testing), we will contest unwarranted chargebacks
- If the chargeback is found in your favor, you will receive a refund through your credit card company
- If the chargeback is found in our favor, no refund will be issued and you may be responsible for chargeback fees
Modifications to This Refund Policy
Autism Diagnostics Lab reserves the right to modify this Refund and Return Policy at any time. Changes will be effective immediately upon posting to our website. The "Last Updated" date at the top of this page indicates when the policy was last modified.
The refund policy in effect at the time of your purchase will govern your transaction. If you purchase a test, you are agreeing to the refund policy as it exists at that time.
State-Specific Refund Rights
Some states provide consumers with additional refund or cancellation rights beyond those described in this policy. If your state law provides you with additional rights, those rights apply in addition to this policy.
